Transportation equity is necessary for a healthy community.

When a woman receives her driver’s license, she deepens her independence and creates avenues for the livelihood of her family to improve. We understand that women learn best from each other and RWR's unique approach to reinvestment marries workforce development with sustainable skills.

As a result, our driver’s education program is a combination of training by and with community experts followed by practical driver’s education with state-certified driving instructors. We facilitate education on:

  • Seat belt safety

  • Police interaction

  • Car seat installation

To offer free programming and empower refugee and immigrant community members, we utilize a “train-the-trainer” model. Once female students complete the safety education and behind-the-wheel training, they are eligible to take their driver’s license test.  RWR provides a loaner vehicle for the exam and pays for the cost of the license. When a student passes, she receives a certificate, a AAA car safety kit and a gasoline gift card.

If you are a refugee or immigrant woman who is interested in becoming a state-certified driving instructor, please apply for our Driving Instructor Scholarship Program. Contact us here.
